Workshops, Talks & Modules

Transformative Performance Workshops & Courses

With a doctorate in Performance Studies, extensive experience in activism, and years of teaching at various educational levels, from secondary to university standard, I offer a range of dynamic and impactful services that fuse performance, activism, and education. Through workshops, courses, and bespoke consultations, I aim to empower individuals and organisations to explore how performance can be a tool for social justice, ethical representation, and creative activism. Whether you're a university, college, educator, artist, or organisation looking to incorporate performance into your work, these offerings provide the practical skills and theoretical insights needed to make a lasting impact.

The topics of the training can be distilled into a day’s workshop, and also unravel into an extensive study that deepens learning and enhances participants' experience. Courses can be designed with assessment for learning criteria, with academic outcomes from the training. Although in-person is preferred for an impactful experience, these sessions have been adapted for the online space also.

Performance in Campaigns

This workshop or course is designed for activists and campaigners who want to incorporate performance into their advocacy work. Using real-world examples from campaigns I have worked on, participants will explore how performance can amplify messages, engage audiences, and create lasting impact. Practical exercises will guide participants through designing campaign-specific performances that align with their goals and values.

Performance in Activism

Activism and performance share a common goal: to inspire change. This training examines the intersection of these two fields, focusing on how performance can be used as a tool for advocacy and social change. Participants will explore how to design and execute performances that highlight pressing social issues, drawing on my experience in animal rights activism and performance-based protest. Practical exercises will help participants develop their own activist performances, with an emphasis on impact and ethical representation.

Performing Animality

This training explores the concept of animality in performance, focusing on how we can ethically and creatively represent nonhuman animals on stage or in our activism. Drawing on both theory and practice, participants will engage with methods of embodying animal experiences and challenging anthropocentric perspectives in their work. This workshop is ideal for artists, educators, and activists looking to deepen their understanding of nonhuman representations in activism and performance.

Social Justice Performance in Education

Ideal for educators and facilitators, this workshop or course focuses on using performance as a tool for exploring social justice issues in educational settings. Participants will learn how to incorporate performance techniques into their teaching to engage students in discussions on race, gender, animal rights, and other social justice topics. The workshop integrates both theory and practice, offering strategies for creating inclusive and transformative learning experiences.

Performance & Trauma

This training delves into how trauma can be represented and processed through performance. It focuses on using theatre as a medium for exploring personal and collective trauma, with an emphasis on the ethical considerations involved. Drawing from my PhD research on performative trauma in activism, participants will learn techniques for creating performances that engage with trauma in sensitive and impactful ways.

Bespoke Training for Specific Requests

For organisations, educational institutions, and groups with unique needs, I offer fully customised training designed to meet specific goals. These bespoke sessions can be tailored to address particular themes, audiences, or campaign strategies, with content and delivery format shaped by the organisation’s objectives. From performance techniques for environmental activism to trauma-informed approaches for educators, each training is crafted to provide actionable insights and practical tools suited to the audience.
